Their lack of consciousness leads them toward destruction.

Ignoring constructive advice or ethical principles leads to failure. For example, a person who mocks discipline and ignores health warnings eventually suffers physically and mentally, losing their well-being.

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar uses the metaphor of the sky to explain the dissolution of 'Avidya' (ignorance). He posits that ignorance and its manifestations (the material world and ego) do not have an independent existence. Just as an optical illusion or clouds appearing in the sky are essentially part of the sky and eventually dissolve back into it, the entire perceived world of duality dissolves into the pure consciousness of the Atman once the light of wisdom dawns. The 'destruction' of ignorance is not a physical removal but a realization that it never truly existed apart from the Self.

In daily life, many of our anxieties are based on false perceptions. Once we gain correct knowledge, the anxiety disappears within our own mind. For example, realizing that a 'scary shadow' was just a tree branch removes the fear instantly because the fear was an 'effect of ignorance' that dissolved in the 'light of truth'.

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains how ignorance dissolves into the Self upon realization.

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar emphasizes that the mere physical abandonment of duties (Karma) does not lead to the state of 'Naishkarmya' (freedom from the bonds of action). True renunciation is internal. As long as the ego and the desire for results persist, one remains bound by their actions. One cannot achieve spiritual perfection simply by sitting idle or avoiding responsibilities; it requires the purification of the mind and the dissolution of the sense of doership.

In professional life, quitting a stressful job thinking it will bring peace is often a mistake. True peace comes from performing one's duties with excellence while remaining detached from the outcome (praise or promotion), rather than avoiding the work itself.

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains to Arjuna that physical renunciation of actions does not automatically lead to spiritual liberation.
