In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar illustrates the concept of Advaita (non-duality). He explains that a wave in the ocean might momentarily perceive itself as a distinct entity due to its form and movement. However, its fundamental essence is nothing but water. When the wave subsides, it loses its individual identity and merges back into the vastness of the ocean. Similarly, an enlightened person (Sthitaprajna) realizes that their individual ego is an illusion and that they are inherently one with the Universal Consciousness.

In practical life, this teaching helps in reducing ego. When we realize that we are part of a larger whole, our conflicts with others diminish. Example: In a corporate environment, seeing yourself as an integral part of the organization's success rather than working only for personal glory.

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains the state of oneness between the individual soul and the Supreme Soul using the metaphor of a wave and the ocean.

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar emphasizes that doubt is the offspring of ignorance. Just as darkness creates illusions, ignorance creates doubts that take deep root in the human heart, leading to inaction and confusion. The only way to eliminate this is through 'Jnana' (Knowledge). By using the metaphorical 'Sword of Knowledge', one must uproot these doubts. Once the truth is realized, the mind becomes clear, and the individual can perform their worldly and spiritual duties with absolute conviction.

In professional or personal life, whenever you face indecision, do not let it linger. Seek facts, data, and wisdom (knowledge) to clear the confusion. For example, if you are unsure about a new project, research it thoroughly to gain the confidence to proceed.

Lord Krishna concludes the fourth chapter by advising Arjuna to destroy the paralyzing doubt born of ignorance using the sword of wisdom.

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar emphasizes the performance of 'Ucita Karma' (appropriate action). He suggests that whatever duty comes to us naturally by time or circumstance should be performed with absolute purity. The term 'Akalaṅkata' is crucial; it implies performing actions without the stain of ego, selfishness, or desire for results, thereby transforming the action into a spiritual practice that does not bind the soul.

In daily life, instead of avoiding difficult tasks, one should focus on doing their current responsibilities with full integrity. For example, an employee completing their task honestly without just focusing on the reward, but on the quality of work.
