The Plover Bird and the Mighty Ocean

🎓 intermediate ⏱️ 3 min read

On the shores of a vast ocean lived a pair of Plover birds. When the time came for the female Plover to lay her eggs, she asked her husband to find a safe spot. The male Plover suggested the beach, but the female was worried. 'The tides could wash our eggs away,' she said. However, the male Plover was confident and insisted they stay. The Ocean, listening to their conversation, grew arrogant and decided to teach them a lesson. One day, while the birds were away foraging, the Ocean sent a massive wave and swallowed their eggs. Upon returning, the birds were devastated. The male Plover, filled with determination, declared, 'I will dry up this ocean and get my eggs back!' Other birds laughed at him, saying it was impossible for a tiny bird to empty the vast sea. But the Plover couple began their task, picking up drops of water in their small beaks and dropping them on the sand. Their persistence caught the attention of other birds, and eventually, the news reached Garuda, the King of Birds and the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Seeing the plight and the incredible resolve of his kin, Garuda arrived at the shore. He threatened the Ocean, 'Return the eggs at once, or I shall dry you up with the wind of my mighty wings!' Terrified of Garuda's divine power, the Ocean immediately surrendered and returned the eggs safely. The Plover birds learned that while they were small, their persistence and the support of their community could overcome even the mightiest obstacles.
