The Bird with Two Heads

🎓 intermediate ⏱️ 2 min read

Long ago, by the side of a large lake, there lived a unique bird named Bharunda on a banyan tree. This bird was extraordinary because it had two heads but shared only one body and one stomach. Although they shared the same body, both heads had their own brains and could think and act independently. One day, while wandering among the branches, the first head spotted a delicious, golden fruit hanging from a tree. It immediately plucked the fruit and began to eat it with great relish. The fruit was the sweetest thing it had ever tasted. Seeing this, the second head said, "Dear brother, that fruit looks incredibly tasty. Please give me a small piece so I can taste it too." However, the first head was selfish and replied arrogantly, "Why should I give it to you? We both share the same stomach anyway. Whether I eat it or you eat it, the nutrition goes to the same place. There is no need for you to taste it separately." The second head felt deeply hurt and insulted by this behavior. It harbored a grudge and waited for an opportunity to take revenge. A few days later, the second head found a poisonous fruit on another tree. It picked the fruit and said to the first head, "Remember how you refused to share that sweet fruit with me? Now, I will eat this poisonous fruit to teach you a lesson." The first head cried out in panic, "Stop! Don't be foolish! If you eat that poison, we will both die because we share the same body and stomach." But blinded by anger and the desire for revenge, the second head ignored the warning and swallowed the poisonous fruit. Within minutes, the poison spread throughout their common body, and the bird fell dead from the tree.
