💡 Meaning

By constantly thinking about sensory objects, attachment to them develops in the mind. From this attachment, desire is born.

🔍 Deep Interpretation

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar describes the psychological chain reaction of human downfall. Contemplation (Chintan) on sensory objects creates an emotional bond or attachment (Sang). This attachment eventually transforms into an intense longing or desire (Kama). It highlights that the root of all distractions and eventual moral decline lies in the initial thought process and mental dwelling on external pleasures.

🎯 Practical Application

To avoid bad habits, one must stop dwelling on them mentally. For example, if you keep thinking about junk food or social media, you will eventually crave it. Redirecting your thoughts is the first step to self-discipline.

📌 Context

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains the psychological process of how attachment leads to desire, based on Gita 2.62.

💡 Meaning

One who lives with the firm conviction that wherever they look, they see only their own Self, is truly liberated in my certain view.

🔍 Deep Interpretation

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar describes the state of Advaita (non-duality). A realized soul perceives the entire universe as an extension of their own self. The duality of 'subject' and 'object' dissolves into a singular consciousness. One who remains firm in this realization is considered truly liberated from the cycle of birth and death.

🎯 Practical Application

In daily life, recognizing the same divine spark in everyone helps eliminate prejudice. For example, helping a stranger with the same care as a family member.

📌 Context

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains the vision of a self-realized person who sees unity in diversity.

Dnyaneshwari Ch. 2, Verse 202

जैसा गगनीं सूर्यु एकु । परी जळीं दिसे अनेकु । तैसा आत्मा हा अलोकु । देहीं दिसे ॥

अलोकु Adjective
Aloku
अद्वितीय/अदृश्य
Unique/Invisible
देहीं Noun
Dehi
शरीरात
In the body

💡 Meaning

Just as there is only one sun in the sky but it appears as many in different water bodies, similarly, the unique Soul appears to be different in various bodies.

🔍 Deep Interpretation

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar uses the 'Reflection Analogy' (Bimba-Pratibimba Vada). Just as the single sun reflects in numerous pots of water, appearing as many suns, the singular Supreme Soul reflects in various physical bodies. The multiplicity is an illusion caused by the 'Upadhi' (limiting adjuncts) of the body and mind. Realizing this unity leads to liberation from the cycle of birth and death, as one understands that the core essence of all beings is the same.

🎯 Practical Application

Practice seeing the same divine spark in everyone you meet, regardless of their outward appearance or status. Example: Just as electricity is the same but powers different bulbs, the same life force is in everyone.

📌 Context

Shri Krishna explains the nature of the Soul to Arjuna, and Dnyaneshwar Maharaj elaborates on its oneness despite appearing in multiple forms.
