In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar advises Arjuna to perform his prescribed duties (Swadharma) without any hesitation or doubt. He emphasizes that action performed with a clear mind and without attachment to the results leads an individual to 'Purushartha'—the ultimate spiritual goal. Instead of renouncing action, one should refine the motive behind the action to attain perfection.

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains that performing one's rightful duties without confusion is the path to liberation.

In this verse, Dnyaneshwar Maharaj clarifies the nature of 'Akarma' (inaction in action). A person who has realized the Self continues to perform worldly duties for the benefit of society. However, because their ego has dissolved into universal consciousness, the sense of 'I am doing this' (Kartrutva-bhav) never arises. He uses the analogy of the sun: the sun doesn't 'try' to remove darkness; its very nature is light. Similarly, the actions of a realized soul are spontaneous and natural, leaving no karmic residue because the individual ego is absent.

Perform your duties as a natural expression of your role rather than a means to feed your ego. For example, just as breathing is natural and we don't take pride in it, our service to others should be spontaneous and free from the expectation of praise or the burden of 'doing'.

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains how a realized soul performs actions without being bound by the ego of doership.

Saint Dnyaneshwar illustrates that although desire (Kama) appears invincible and overwhelming, it can be subdued through the power of refined intellect (Buddhi). He employs the metaphor of a mirage—a visual illusion of water in a desert. Just as the illusion of a flood in a mirage vanishes once the reality of the sun's rays hitting the sand is understood, the illusory grip of worldly desires loosens and disappears when the light of spiritual wisdom and discrimination shines through the intellect.

When faced with a strong temptation or an impulsive urge, use your rational mind to analyze its temporary nature. For example, if you feel a sudden urge to procrastinate, use your intellect to remind yourself of the long-term peace that comes from completing your tasks on time.

In the concluding part of Chapter 3, Shri Krishna explains to Arjuna how the intellect can be used to overcome the powerful enemy known as desire (Kama).
