In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar captures the essence of Krishna's motivation to Arjuna. Having established that the soul is indestructible and the physical body is temporary, Krishna points out that Arjuna's grief is logically unfounded. He addresses him as 'Pandusuta' (Son of Pandu) to remind him of his lineage and duties. The instruction to 'hold courage' and 'discard distress' is a call for emotional intelligence—the ability to stabilize the mind despite external turmoil. It emphasizes that mental agitation is the primary obstacle to righteous action.

In daily life, when faced with sudden bad news or a challenging situation, instead of panicking, one should practice mindfulness to regain composure. For example, if a project fails, focus on the solution rather than the loss.

After explaining the eternal nature of the soul, Lord Krishna urges Arjuna to abandon his mental grief and regain his composure to fulfill his duty.

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar uses the metaphor of roasted seeds to explain the state of a Jnani (wise person). Just as seeds that have been roasted lose their potential to sprout even when sown in fertile soil, the actions performed by a person established in self-knowledge do not create future bondage. Since the 'fire of wisdom' has destroyed the ego and the sense of doership (Kartrutva-bhav), their actions are purely functional and do not leave any karmic imprint. This illustrates the concept of 'Akarma'—action in inaction.

Practice performing your daily tasks without the ego of being the 'sole doer'. For example, while working on a team project, contribute your best effort as a duty rather than seeking personal glory. This mindset reduces stress and prevents the burden of expectations.

Saint Dnyaneshwar explains how a self-realized person remains free from the bondage of actions despite being active in the world.

In this verse, Saint Dnyaneshwar emphasizes that doubt is the offspring of ignorance. Just as darkness creates illusions, ignorance creates doubts that take deep root in the human heart, leading to inaction and confusion. The only way to eliminate this is through 'Jnana' (Knowledge). By using the metaphorical 'Sword of Knowledge', one must uproot these doubts. Once the truth is realized, the mind becomes clear, and the individual can perform their worldly and spiritual duties with absolute conviction.

In professional or personal life, whenever you face indecision, do not let it linger. Seek facts, data, and wisdom (knowledge) to clear the confusion. For example, if you are unsure about a new project, research it thoroughly to gain the confidence to proceed.

Lord Krishna concludes the fourth chapter by advising Arjuna to destroy the paralyzing doubt born of ignorance using the sword of wisdom.
