The Wise Jackal and the Talking Cave
In a vast forest lived an old lion named Kharanakhera. Due to his age, he could no longer hunt as efficiently as before. One day, he was extremely hungry and searched for food from morning until evening but found nothing. As the sun was setting, he came across a large and beautiful cave. The lion thought to himself, 'Surely some animal must be living in this cave. When it returns for rest at night, I will kill it and satisfy my hunger.' With this thought, the lion entered the cave and hid in a dark corner. The cave belonged to a very clever jackal named Dadhipucha. After some time, Dadhipucha arrived at the cave. Near the entrance, he noticed lion footprints on the ground. Upon closer inspection, he realized that the footprints led into the cave, but there were no tracks leading out. The jackal became alert. He thought, 'If I go inside, the lion will surely eat me. But how can I be sure if the lion is still inside?' The jackal came up with a brilliant plan. He stood at the mouth of the cave and shouted loudly, 'O Cave! O Cave! Why are you so silent today? Usually, you welcome me and invite me inside when I return. Today you are not saying anything. If you don't call out to me as usual, I will leave and find another cave.' Inside, the lion was puzzled. He thought that perhaps the cave actually spoke to the jackal and was silent today because of his presence. He feared that if he didn't reply, the jackal would leave and he would lose his meal. So, the lion roared loudly and said, 'Welcome, Jackal! You may come inside without fear!' The lion's roar was so powerful that the whole cave vibrated. The jackal was now certain that the lion was inside. Without wasting a single moment, he ran away as fast as he could, saving his life. As he fled, he said, 'Those who foresee danger and act wisely are the ones who survive and prosper.'
💡 Moral
Presence of mind and intelligence can save one from the gravest of dangers.
📝 स्पष्टीकरण (Explanation)
The story teaches that physical strength is not always enough to survive. The jackal, though smaller and weaker than the lion, used his presence of mind to detect a hidden danger. By observing the environment (the footprints) and using a clever trick (talking to the cave), he forced the enemy to reveal itself. This highlights the importance of critical thinking in dangerous situations.
