Rani Lakshmibai is an icon of resistance against British colonial rule and a symbol of female courage.
Born as Manikarnika Tambe, she married Gangadhar Rao, the Maharaja of Jhansi. When the British refused to recognize her adopted son as the heir under the 'Doctrine of Lapse', she took up arms.
She led her army with extraordinary bravery during the siege of Jhansi and later joined forces with Tantia Tope to capture Gwalior. She famously said, 'I shall not give up my Jhansi'.
