NPCI to introduce offline UPI payments in 2026. Transactions up to ₹2000 in low-network areas

Now you can make UPI payments even without internet! NPCI has created a new feature. Send up to ₹2000 in areas with poor network.                

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will launch offline UPI payments in 2026. This will allow PoS device transactions in areas with weak internet connectivity. Each transaction will be capped at ₹2000.                

NPCI has developed a new protocol to certify PoS devices from major terminal manufacturers. The offline UPI system will temporarily store transaction data on devices and process it once connectivity is restored. This initiative aims to expand digital payment access in rural India.
