Dr. Robert Ballard and his team aboard the research vessel Knorr, funded by the U.S. Navy for a top-secret mission, take over the search. They deploy the new Argo system, equipped with advanced cameras and sensors, to visually survey promising areas.
The Wreck Is Found!
In the early hours of the morning, the Argo system detects a debris field on the ocean floor. Shortly after, a distinctive boiler is identified, confirming the incredible discovery of the RMS Titanic's wreck at a depth of 12,500 feet (3,800 meters).
First Human Exploration
Ballard returns to the site with the submersible Alvin and the ROV Jason Jr. for the first human-occupied exploration of the Titanic. This mission provides the world with the first detailed images and understanding of the ship's condition and the surrounding debris field.
