1969

ISRO Established

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was formed, superseding INCOSPAR (Indian National Committee for Space Research) established in 1962. Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space program, played a pivotal role.

1975

Aryabhata Launched

India's first satellite, named Aryabhata, was launched on 19 April 1975 from Kapustin Yar, a Soviet rocket launch and development site, using a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle.

1980

SLV-3 Successful Launch

India successfully launched its first indigenous satellite launch vehicle, SLV-3, carrying the Rohini satellite into orbit. This achievement made India the sixth nation to develop orbital launch capability.

1994

PSLV's First Success

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) achieved its first successful mission, launching the IRS-P2 satellite. PSLV became ISRO's workhorse, known for its reliability and versatility in launching numerous satellites.

2008

Chandrayaan-1

India's first lunar probe, Chandrayaan-1, was launched. It successfully orbited the Moon and detected widespread presence of water molecules on the lunar surface, a major scientific discovery.

2013

Mangalyaan (MOM)

The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), or Mangalyaan, was launched, becoming India's first interplanetary mission. It successfully entered Mars orbit in 2014, making ISRO the fourth space agency to reach Mars and the first to do so on its maiden attempt.

2017

104 Satellites in a Single Launch

ISRO created a world record by successfully launching 104 satellites aboard a single PSLV-C37 rocket, demonstrating its advanced capabilities and cost-effectiveness in space launches.

2019

Chandrayaan-2 Launch

Chandrayaan-2, India's second lunar exploration mission, was launched. While the Vikram lander had a hard landing, the orbiter continues to provide valuable data from lunar orbit, significantly contributing to lunar science.
