Svetlana Savitskaya: The First Woman to Spacewalk and Her Inspiring Legacy

A Soviet cosmonaut, pilot, and the second woman in space. She was also the first woman to perform an EVA (extravehicular activity) or spacewalk.

August 19, 1982, aboard Soyuz T-7, becoming the second woman in space.

On July 25, 1984, during the Soyuz T-12 mission, she became the first woman to perform a spacewalk (EVA), spending 3 hours and 35 minutes outside the Salyut 7 space station.

She was an accomplished test pilot, holding 18 world records in aviation, and was a world champion in aerobatics.
